How it Works Stage 1 - Coarse Diamond Coated Rods This stage prepares the knife edge for sharpening, smoothing out any imperfections that may cause the blade to catch during the sharpening process.

Stage 2 - Hardened Tungsten Carbide Simply pull the blade through slot 2 to create the perfect sharpened "V" edge on even the dullest knife.

Stage 3 - Fine Ceramic Stone Rods This stage hones the blade's edge, removing burrs and gently polishing it for an incredibly sharp finish.

What Knives can the Smart Sharp be used with? The Smart Sharp is suitable for a wide range of kitchen knives, particularly Western style knives. These include straight edge steel kitchen knives, hardened steel knives, and wide serrated knives like bread knives.

What Knives should the Smart Sharp not be used with? Do not use the Smart Sharp with ceramic knives, scissors, or micro serrated knives. We also advise against using the Smart Sharp with Japanese style knives, including the 'Global' brand, as these knives have narrower blade angles. The Smart Sharp is also not recommended for knives previously sharpened by whetstones or steels, as the blade angle may be different or uneven due to long-term use. Lastly, the Smart Sharp is not suitable for visibly damaged knives with significant notches or dents on the blade edges.
